Mata crossed for Hazard at the far post and his knockdown eventually found the Spaniard who drilled in a shot that Howard saved. But only as far as Lampard who shovelled the ball into the net from close range.

Half Time. Referee Howard Webb blows the whistle to bring a pulsating first half to a close. Everton hit Chelsea hard early on but the visitors showed good character to claw their way back into the contest.
